Getting your little one's nursery just right can be a confusing process, so we've put together everything you need to know about keeping baby safe and sound from play time to sleep time.
During the first couple of months you and your baby will be inseparable. Even at night your baby will be by your bed in their Moses basket or crib. A Moses basket is great if you want to keep your baby close by wherever you are, as it's easily movable due to its strong handles. You may even consider a rocking stand to accompany it help soothe your baby. Cribs will give your nursery that traditional feel. Many of ours come with a gliding or rocking motion, which help baby drift off to sleep.
When you start shopping for a cot there are lots of different options for you to choose from, so we'll make it easier to find exactly what you need as every situation is different (just like every baby!).
Things to consider:
Drop side Many cots offer this mechanism, It allows for you to cradle your baby in one hand, whilst raising or lowering the side with the other. This is especially helpful when your baby is sleeping as you can pop them in without ever disrupting their precious slumber.
Base positions If your cot specifications include base positions, it means you can adjust the height of your mattress within the cot. Usually cots come with 2/3 different base positions. This meaning you can have it at its highest during your child's first couple of months and lower as they become older and more likely to attempt their great escape!
Cot beds If you're looking for a good value buy then a cot bed is for you as they will serve your little one for years. As your child grows so does the cot bed - by adjusting and taking away the sides you have a new bed straight away.
Teething Rails Eventually your baby won't be able to resist the urge to chew! Help protect their cot and their little gums with teething rails. Teething rails are clear and non toxic, ensuring your babies' safety as they grow and begin to explore.
Travel Cots Make sure your baby is comfy wherever they are with a travel cot. These are very practical with many doubling as a play pen. Many travel cots come complete with travel bags and removable and washable covers too. Make sure you don't leave home without one!
A mattress is the most important investment you will make and you should never use a second hand one, no matter how new. First off you need the right size. 120cm x 60cm (size 200) fits a cot and 140cm x 70cm (size 400) fits a cot/bed. Many of our mattresses have different benefits so to help you choose we have included some helpful info about the options we sell;

Next is ensuring your baby has enough but not too many blankets. This is because you never want your baby to be too hot or too cold. The simplest solution is to take a look at our temperature chart:
We stock loads of different bedding looks, so you just need to decide what your theme will be!
Apart from your sheets, quilts, pillows, blankets and bumper, there are a few more extras you may also need. For example, a cot mobile, many of which play soothing lullabies to help your baby sleep. Their dangling toys attract your baby's eye and keep them entertained.
Keep the sun at bay by making sure you have a good set of curtains, and if that's not enough a blackout blind should do the trick. These make sure that nothing disturbs your little one's rest, especially in the summer when the sun comes up really early.
We also have temperature monitors which tell you the temperature of your nursery and whether it's too hot, too cold or just right, helping you to achieve the perfect environment for your baby to live in.
Helpful Sleep Tips
- Babies should be placed on their backs to sleep, away from smoky atmospheres
- Your baby should not be too hot or too cold
- They need to be in the 'feet to foot position' at the foot of the cot with bedding arranged to prevent wriggling under the cover.
We have a large selection of monitors to fit any parent's needs. Some monitors allow for you to just listen to your baby while others have a display screen so you can not only hear everything your baby's doing but can see them too! If that's not enough, also available are movement detectors. These monitor the movement in your baby's cot and, if no movement is detected, an alarm will sound. Many monitors also include night lights and some play lullaby melodies to help sooth your baby to sleep.
