  • Based on William Joyce's beautifully illustrated children's book A Day With Wilbur Robinson, this lively computer-animated Disney film follows the adventures of Lewis (voiced by Jordan Fry and Daniel Hansen), a young orphaned inventor who is determined to find his birth mother by using a "memory scanner", a device of his own creation. When Lewis meets a boy from the year 2037 named Wilbur Robinson (Wesley Singerman), they begin a charmingly strange time-travelling journey that involves Wilburs eccentric family, bowler hats bent on world domination, song-and-dance frogs, and a frustrated Tyrannosaurus Rex. Boasting the debut of cutting-edge 3D technology, Meet The Robinsons is helmed by first-time feature-film director Stephen J. Anderson, who also voices numerous characters, including the moustachioed villain, Bowler Hat Guy. (Other notable vocal actors include Angela Bassett, Tom Selleck, Adam West, Harland Williams, and Laurie Metcalf.) Meet The Robinsons also marks Pixar head John Lasseter's first outing as an executive producer on a non-Pixar movie, resulting in a film that features some of that company's signature energy and wit, but stands on its own outside of that universe. While Meet The Robinsons' literally all-over-the-place plot can be a little difficult to follow at times, its stunning retro-futuristic visuals and amiably wacky characters easily keep viewers entertained.

  • With Dinosaur, Disney breaks a new stride in the technological revolution of computer animation--combining computer-animated characters with digitally enhanced live-action landscapes. The effect is literally unbelievable and the clarity, realness, and definition of the pictures easily make the once surprising effects of virtual reality seem like the dark ages.
A dinosaur egg is stolen from its nest and passed along by various birds, animals and other predators each hoping to eat it. Fumbled into a community of kind and nurturing lemurs, it cracks open and Aladar, a baby dinosaur emerges. He lives happily and peacefully among the lemurs, who raise him into adolescence. However, when a natural disaster occurs, wiping out the beautiful rainforest that was their home, teenage Aladar joins a dinosaur pilgrimage--and discovers his true ancestry--in order to bring his lemur family to safety. Far sweeter and much more realistic than recent dinosaur movies like Jurassic Park or even classics like The Land Before Time, these new digital dinosaurs are surprisingly human with emotional eyes and expressive voices that make the magic nearly tangible.

  • TOY STORY: was the first feature-length film animated entirely by computer, and is as chock-full of heart and warmth as any Disney cartoon feature. Young Andy's playthings, including the sardonic Mr. Potatohead, a Slinky Dog with a southern drawl, an anxiety-ridden dinosaur, and some very gung-ho toy soldiers, are led by Woody, a pull-string cowboy doll whom Andy adores. But on his birthday, Andy receives a self-possessed, gadget-laden spaceman action figure named Buzz Lightyear, who quickly becomes Andy's favourite. Soon the overlooked Woody becomes very jealous. However, when a turn of events leaves Buzz and Woody lost in the 'outside world,' they have to get along in order to find their way home. TOY STORY 2: Andy heads off to summer camp, leaving the toys behind to fend for themselves. In much the same way Buzz discovered he is a mass-produced product in the first instalment, Woody discovers that he is a valuable collectible spawned by a popular 1950s kiddie-puppet TV show, 'Woody's Roundup Gang' when he is kidnapped by an evil toy collector, Al McWhiggin. Through Al, who plans to sell him to a Japanese toy museum, Woody is reunited with the toy versions of his TV cohorts plucky cowgirl Jessie (Cusack), prospector Stinky Pete (Grammer), and trusty horse Bullseye. Woody must choose between seeing Andy grow up and forsake him and living a sterile but eternal life behind glass being admired but not played with. Released to universal acclaim, TOY STORY 3: with a heart-warming story, hilarious script, and stunning CGI animation --this time with the added optional bonus of Disney Digital 3-D. The movie begins with Andy leaving for college and accidentally donating his beloved toys -- including Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the Potato-Head family-- to a daycare. While the crew meets new friends, including Ken (Michael Keaton) and plush patriarch Lotso (Ned Beatty), they soon grow to hate their new surroundings and plan an escape. Contains 4 discs. Cert PG.
